eclipse
I traveled on my own a thousand miles,
and then you helped me drive a hundred more,
as I anticipated brightened smiles
at fin'lly seeing what I've waited for.
I guess my transit wasn't hard compared
to folks who had less privilege than me,
and I was fortunate to find somewhere
the climate gave us visibility.
So I was glad to have the journey done
and got impatient waiting in the park,
but witnessing the moon block out the sun,
I didn't think that it would be so dark.
(Though, being me, I should have known it might
remind me of the way I feel at night.)
